The closing is the last step in the entire process. This is the time when you and the buyer sign all the documents necessary to transfer ownership of the property to the buyer.
The closing typically takes place at the title company's office, and is often one of the most emotional moments in the transaction. The buyer is paying a large sum of money and you are parting with your property. While the buyer has more paperwork to sign than you will (their mortgage, bank-required disclosures, etc.), this is the time for you to sign the deed, as well as several other documents.
You have the option of having an attorney represent you during the process. Should you decide to use and attorney, they have the option of attending the closing.
Once the closing is completed, you will give the keys to the buyer and receive your payment for the property (usually in the form of a check). Congratulations on your sale!
