You are not required to use an attorney during your sale, but many sellers do opt for one. Having legal representation look over and explain the transaction documents you are signing will usually make you more comfortable with the process and the amount of paperwork involved.
Your attorney, should you choose to hire one, also has the option of attending the actual closing. You may want to ask the lawyer you use if this will be included in their services.
