The city of West Lake Hills is located 6 miles west of downtown Austin in west central Travis County. It was incorporated as a village on September 9, 1953. While its population grew, it became a city December 3, 1957. Due to legal boundary disputes with the City of Austin, the current boundaries were not court established until 1970.
West Lake Hills consists of approximately four square miles of land on the west side of Lake Austin. Residents of the area are committed to the preservation of the natural, rural environmental beauty of their land.
