Taylor is located in southeastern Williamson County. Originally laid out in 1876, the town was originally named Taylorsville in honor of Edward Moses Taylor, who was an official with the International and Great Northern Railroads. In 1892, the community’s name was officially changed to Taylor.
Taylor is technically considered part of Austin’s metropolitan area, yet retains its pride as an individual, rural community. A number of stately old mansions can be found here, many of which have been restored and modernized throughout generations demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm for historic preservation. Taylor celebrates its ethnic diversity, which is evident during the annual “Taylor History Days”.
The town is known as a hub for agriculturally-related businesses and its manufacturing industry, which includes factories for the production of furniture, clothing, bedding, and other products. Recreation in Taylor includes municipal parks with swimming pools and picnic opportunities, as well as the Taylor Country Club’s public 9-hole golf course.
