Pflugerville, TX - Travis County

Population (2000 Census): 16,335
Pflugerville is located 15 miles north of Austin in northeastern Travis County. Named after Henry Pfluger, who brought his family here from Germany in 1849, the community was incorporated in the 1960’s.
The community of Pflugerville began its development after the Civil War. By the mid-1890’s, it had a population of around 250, as well as a variety of businesses. The population doubled within a decade of the completion of the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas rail line, which then passed just outside Plugerville.
Following World War II, a number of residents moved to Austin and other larger cities. The population began to grow again during the 1960’s, and by the late 1980’s the Pflugerville area was one of the fastest growing regions in Texas, thanks to new development in the community.
Today, there are several festivals and family-oriented activities sponsored by the community each year, many of which honor the strong sense of heritage in Pflugerville.
