Manor, TX - Travis County

Population (2000 Census): 1,204
Manor is located 12 miles northeast of Austin in northeastern Travis County. Named for James Manor, a cotton farmer, the community was a focal point for the cotton and railroad industries of central Texas by the early 1900’s. Manor was established in the mid-to-late 1800’s and incorporated in the early 1930’s.
In the mid-1880’s, Manor’s primary shipping commodities included cotton, cottonseed, and grain. Even through the economic turmoil from the Great Depression in the early 1930’s, Manor remained a commercial hub for local farmers, who shipped livestock and dairy products by railroad.
Manor’s population grew quickly during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. From there, its growth remained relatively steady. In the late 1990’s, Manor began receiving an influx of new residents to new homes in several local subdivisions.
