Liberty Hill, TX - Williamson County

Population (2000 Census): 1,409
Liberty Hill is located 33 miles northwest of Austin in Williamson County, between the north and south forks of the San Gabriel River. Settlers began arriving in the 1840’s, and by 1853, a post office was opened about 3 miles from the current town. The town’s name of Liberty Hill was suggested by the appointed postmaster, William Oliver Spencer.
Due to the relocations of a nearby stage stop and the post office, the settlement moved east twice between the 1850’s and 1882. At that point, being bypassed by the railroad caused the town to shift its location yet again. The area’s school enrollment far surpassed its population, which has remained small throughout the years.
