Lake Travis, TX - Travis & Burnet Counties

Lake Travis is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Austin in southern Burnet and western Travis Counties. A 65-mile-long artificial lake along the Colorado River, Lake Travis was formed as a by-product of the Joseph J. Mansfield Dam, which was completed in 1942.
The lake is a major attraction and resort area, where opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, sailing, water and jet-skiing, and swimming are provided.
Lake Travis, the longest of the seven Highland Lakes, is 4.5 miles wide at its widest point, begins in Austin and winds northwest through the central Texas Hill Country. Its main water source is the Colorado River, and the lake is managed and monitored by the Lower Colorado River Authority.
The surface area of Lake Travis is 18,930 acres. Its capacity is 1,950,000 acre-feet, 778,000 of which is reserved for flood control.
