Cedar Valley is located 12 miles southeast of Austin in southwestern Travis County. Land for a schoolhouse was given by Mark Thomas in 1867. The community acquired a post office several years later in 1872, but the office was discontinued in 1957, with mail for Cedar Valley being sent through Austin. In the mid-1880’s, Cedar Valley had 2 churches, the school, and about 40 residents. The local economy was based upon farmers shipping cotton, wool, and hides.
A small community, Cedar Valley maintained a stable population of approximately seventy people from the 1970’s to 1990.
