Bee Cave, TX - Travis County

Population (2000 Census): 656
Bee Cave is a village located about 20 miles west of Austin. This allows the ability to reside outside the city proper, but still take advantage of the benefits of big city life, such as proximity to major employers and health care facilities. Bee Cave offers wonderful recreational activities and a rich history. It was named for a large cave of wild Mexican honeybees by early settlers to the area.
In the 1850’s, the Bohls family was one of the first to settle on the land that would become Bee Cave. As it became a more popular place to settle in the 1860’s, the area gained its name and attracted any people who wanted to raise their families on quiet farmland. Over the subsequent years, the village grew to include several stores, a cigar factory, cotton gin, a post office, and school. Much of the Bee Cave community was limited to a 2-mile section of crossroads between Teck, Marble Falls, and the Hudson Bend area.
In the 1980’s Bee Cave remained a relaxed community with a small population. In order to avoid being annexed by the City of Austin, the village of Bee Cave became incorporated in 1987.
